News: Keep Your Favorite Photographers in Business!
Longtime fans of Woolsrake Photography will note that there has been an extended gap between updates to this site. I've spent the better part of this past year trying to combat pay-sites that have pirated my photographs to use on their own sites. In talking to other photographers with websites, I have learned that they are all dealing with the same issue. The unauthorized duplication of their work has not only been a distraction from their photography, but has also made them seriously consider closing down their sites. For many it has become too costly to maintain websites only to have their work reproduced by other. With this in mind, please watch for people using the work of your favorite photographers without credit. Fans of subgroups like bears and mature men should seriously think twice about copying and sharing the work of their favorite photographers on other websites and in email groups. Not only is it against the law, but also you are biting the few hands that feed you. If the good photographers that feature the kind of men you prefer stop producing images, you lose a valuable resource. If you like the work of a photographer, support him by sharing a link to his official site rather than copies of his photos on your site or in emails to friends and email groups, and by purchasing products and memberships that will directly benefit the photographer.
